If you’ve followed the recent news you, no doubt, have heard of the case of the Atlanta Falcons Quarterback Michael Vick and his being charged with illegal dog fighting and cruelty to animals which included the torturing of some dogs to death. The outrage produced by this recent episode is nothing short of amazing. No day goes by without the usual mass media coverage of this brutal episode. As I write this, the media is reporting that, in fact, Michael Vick will plead guilty to these charges and perhaps face about a year in jail.
Now, these are serious charges and have been correctly condemned by many. I can’t think of anyone who defends this type of behavior. The exception being that an African-American organization came to Vick's defense, but they couched it in the terms of “let’s not lynch this man before we know that he is guilty.” Now what does this have to do with abortion, you may ask? Well, I can’t help but wonder if these same people who are outraged by the cruelty to these dogs are also outraged at the cruelty to our fellow human beings, namely the unborn child when he/she is brutally killed by abortion. I’m specifically thinking of partial-birth abortion. Statistics are not kept on such abortions, but The Alan Guttmacher Institute, a pro-abortion organization, estimates that there are between 4,000 to 5,000 partial birth abortions per year. describe it. This is a fully formed healthy baby ready to be delivered. Without this dastardly procedure being done, you could take delivery of such a baby and take it home, without any other medical intervention. Have you ever heard any public outcries over partial birth abortion? No media frenzies, no demonstrations - nothing. Complete silence. Yet, when a few dogs are brutally killed, the entire country wants to lynch the perpetrator and the news media carries the outrage in our televisions screens every night.
Dr. James Dobson of Focus on the Family organization was equally stunned by the comparison here. In his 90 second radio commentary he states: "It sickens me to think of what has happened to late-term, viable babies seconds from final delivery," he says. "A child was fully brimming with life before the abortionist inserted a cannula (small tube) into the head, and without anesthetics, callously suctioned out his or her brains. The head collapsed, and a dead baby was delivered."
